Functional Medicine

Functional Medicine in Leominster, MA

Functional medicine looks for what is driving a symptom rather than managing the symptom alone. At ChristCare Wellness Center it sits alongside your primary care, in the same practice, with the same provider.

The Approach

Care that starts with the question "why?"

Conventional primary care is very good at naming a problem and treating it. Functional medicine asks what is underneath it: how you sleep, what you eat, how much stress you carry, what your history and your family history suggest, and what your laboratory results show over time.

Those two ways of working are not in competition. In this practice they are the same appointment. You are not referred elsewhere, and you are not asked to choose between a primary care provider and a functional medicine provider.

What It Involves

A longer conversation, and a plan you can actually follow

  • An unhurried history that covers symptoms, lifestyle, stress, sleep and nutrition, not just the reason for today's visit
  • Laboratory work interpreted in the context of how you feel, not only against a reference range
  • Nutrition, movement, sleep and stress addressed as part of the plan rather than as an afterthought
  • Ongoing follow-up, so the plan is adjusted as your results and your life change
  • Coordination with any specialists already involved in your care
Who It Helps

Common reasons people ask for this kind of care

People who have been told their results are normal but still do not feel well. People carrying long-term fatigue, digestive complaints, weight that will not shift, hormonal changes, or metabolic concerns. People who want to understand their health rather than be handed a prescription and a follow-up slot.

If a condition needs conventional treatment, you will be told so plainly. Functional medicine here is an addition to good primary care, not a replacement for it.

Common Questions

Questions we are asked most

Is functional medicine covered by insurance?

Visits with a primary care provider are generally billed to your insurance in the usual way. Some elements of a functional approach, such as extended consultation time or specialised laboratory testing, may not be covered. Call (978) 775-2067 and we will go through what applies to your plan before you book.

Do I need to leave my current primary care provider?

No. Many patients see ChristCare Wellness Center as their primary care practice, but you are welcome to be seen here while keeping an existing provider elsewhere. We will coordinate where it helps your care.

How is this different from a regular check-up?

A regular check-up is focused and time-limited. A functional medicine visit sets aside time to look at the whole picture, including nutrition, sleep, stress and long-term patterns in your laboratory results.
